| < System description of "CODES" > |
| It consists of activated carbon filter, pre filter, reverse osmosis membrane,
carbon dioxide removal membrane and "CDS" stack where electric deionization
is carried out. In case of city water, the free chlorine is removed by the activated carbon filter, then most of ions are removed by reverse osmosis membrane and the dissolved carbon dioxide is removed by liquid/vapor separation membrane, finally residual ions are removed by "CDS" stack. "CDS" stack consists of cation/anion exchange membranes, ion exchange fiber and direct current power generator. The ion exchange membranes form de-ionization chamber where ion exchange fiber is filled and concentration chamber. The water to be treated enters into de-ionization chamber and the ions in the water are drawn to the concentration chamber by the electrical force, cations to the cathode(-) through cation exchange membrane and anions to the anode(+) through anion membrane. The ion exchange fiber works to transport the ions easily and completely. |

| The ion exchange material is necessary to assist the transportation of the
ions to concentration chamber. It is better to have the shortest route consisting of the same polarity for rapid transportation of ions in de-ionization chamber. Our system using the fiber provides such route easily, whereas the conventional system using ion exchange resin which does not always form the shortest route. |
